All great dreams need funding, and your environmental education project is no different. Here are some resources to help you turn your dreams into reality. If you need more help we've written another extensive page to help you Find Funding for your Environmental Education projects. Money isn't everything, but it sure helps!  For local funding opportunities please go to your regional website.

Captain Planet Foundation Grants

The Captain Planet Foundation provides grants to support hands-on environmental project.  The objective of the Foundation is to encourage innovative programs that empower children and youth around the world to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities.  Deadline to apply is the last day or March, June, September and December continually

River Network Training Grants

The River Network, based in Portland, Oregon, is a national leader in supporting grassroots river and watershed conservation groups with annual funding opportunities, a searchable directory of over 300 funding sources, hundreds of resources, a national directory of river groups, events and job listings, and award programs. Currently, it is accepting small grant applications from non-profit conservation groups who have joined the River Network. Grants may be used to defray travel expenses and/or workshop fees. Earthwatch Educator Fellowship Awards

Awarded through a competitive application process, the Earthwatch Educator Fellowship Awards are considered based on geographic region, financial need, and the benefits that would result from participating in an expedition.  Elementary, middle, and high school educators and administrators of any discipline are eligible to apply.  Applications accepted on a rolling basis.

Build an Outdoor Classroom at Your School Grants

Lowe's Charitable and Educational foundation, International Paper, and National Geographic Explorer! classroom magazine outdoor classroom grant program to help schools improve their science curriculum by engaging students in hands-on experiences outside the traditional classroom.  Grants up to $2,000 will be awarded to at least 100 schools and grants for up to $20,000 may be awarded to schools or school districts with major outdoor classroom projects.  Proposals are reviewed three times a year.

Conservation Trust - National Geographic Society

The objective of the Conservation Trust is to support conservation activities around the world as they fit within the mission of the National Geographic Society. The trust will fund projects that contribute significantly to the preservation and sustainable use of the Earth's biological, cultural, and historical resources.

PG&E Solar Schools Program

Thanks to Pacific Gas and Electric Company support, over $200,000 in Bright Ideas grants will be given to schools for outstanding solar energy education projects. Grants of $2,500 and $5,000 grants are available for schools in the PG&E service area.

Toshiba America Foundation Grant (7-12 grade grants under $5,000)

The Toshiba America Foundation encourages programs, projects and activities that have the potential to improve classroom teaching and learning of science, mathematics and the science and mathematics of technology.  These grants are reviewed on a year-round basis.

Action Grants through 3D Life Adventures

3D Life Adventures is a nonprofit educational organization that has three fundamental themes:  nature, culture, and community.  Its mission is to build and sustain a community of caring and resilient individuals who appreciate, celebrate, and protect both natural and cultural diversity.  The organization's Action Grants provide up to $500 and consulting to support student-led initiatives related to the environment or culture.  Applicants are encouraged to e-mail or call Laura Jackson (703-312-0541; LauraJ@3DlifeAdventures.org), 3D's Action Grant manager, to discuss project ideas before applying.
