Eastern Sierra Watershed Program

In collaboration with the UC White Mountain Research Station, the Inyo County Office of Education is providing professional development and coordination for a unique project in which middle school students conduct watershed monitoring activities on the Owens River and its tributaries. 7th and 8th grade students are collecting data on the now-dry Lower Owens River, scheduled to have water reintroduced in June, 2003. Participating science teachers attend 5-day summer institutes and follow-up sessions during the school year during which they develop and evaluate curriculum related to the program, learn and try new science teaching strategies, and reflect on their teaching.
