School Gardens: Sharing Successes & Best Practices

Saturday, March 13, 2010, 9 A.M. – 3:00 P.M., UC Botanical Garden, Berkeley

Join garden managers, educators, and school volunteers for the University of California Botanical Garden’s annual
one-day conference in a roundtable of activities to experience lesson ideas, resources, and techniques to take full advantage
of one of the most engaging places of learning.

HANDS-ON SESSIONS INCLUDE:

* How Grade-level content Standards come to life in the Garden
* The Urban Sprouts Model of Garden-based Education Program Design
* Using a student outcomes-based Approach for your Program Planning
* Making the Case: How to Advocate for your School Garden Program
* Sample garden lessons connected to science, language arts, math and nutrition
* Sharing and collaboration among our amazing network of school gardeners

7th Annual Bay-Friendly Garden Tour 


Sunday, April 25, 2010 from 10 am to 4pm, Showcasing Natural Gardening Techniques
 
Visit a wide assortment of Bay-Friendly Gardens on this FREE, self-guided tour. Forty private gardens will be featured throughout Alameda County, including an entirely new crop of gardens!  Several of the garden clusters are walkable and/or bikeable. 
 
Registration for the tour is required. Registrants will receive a tour guide book with garden directions and descriptions by mail. Native plants, vegetable starts and Mediterranean perennials can be purchased at select sites on the tour.
 
Online registration and a sneak preview of the 2010 gardens are available at www.BayFriendly.org <http://www.bayfriendly.org/>; . Please register by April 15th so that you can receive a tour guide book.
