			<title>Earth Day Events in Santa Clara County</title>
			<description>&lt;h2 class="title"&gt;&lt;a href="http://svbcbikes.org/content/232"&gt;Mayor's Earth Day Bike Ride&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h2&gt;  &lt;span class="submitted"&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span class="taxonomy"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;
  &lt;p&gt;Riders
can sign up to ride with Mayor Chuck Reed on Earth Day, April 22nd. The
ride check-in starts at 11:30AM, and will return to City Hall at
12:45PM.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;	A few points:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Light Snacks and Water will be provided before the ride
(participants are encouraged to bring their own re-usable bottle of
water)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Riders must supply their own bike &amp;amp; helmet in order to participate&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;While the ride will not be too physically demanding, riders are
responsible for their own health conditions before and after the ride&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

The Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group (SCPBRG), based at Long
Marine Lab was instrumental in the effort to bring the peregrine falcon
back from the brink of extinction, and now they want to share the
inspiring story of the peregrine with your students.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Scientists and educators from the SCPBRG are available to visit your
school for assemblies and class visits for students in grades three
through adult. Students will meet a live peregrine falcon during the
presentation, learn about the peregrine&#146;s amazing adaptations for
survival, and hear the stories of the dedicated scientists whose work
led to the removal of these fascinating predators from the Endangered
Species List. Great teaching resources and activities for your students

artists, their families, and teachers will be held at the Seymour
Center on Saturday, March 24. Due to the overwhelming response to last
year&#146;s awards ceremony, this year we will hold two awards sessions
(according to grade level) on March 24. The awards ceremony for winning
students in grades K-5 will begin at 12 PM. The ceremony for winning
artists in grades 6-12 will begin at 2 PM.&lt;br&gt;

In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore innovative ways to
teach students about population dynamics among humans and non-human
species, especially as they relate to natural resource use and impacts
on ecosystems. Participants will engage in inquiry-based activities
that build understanding of carrying capacity and sustainability in
nature. They will then explore the relationships population growth,
economics, resource consumption and environmental health. Participants
will receive activity instructions, data charts, and background reading
on a user-friendly CD-ROM.&lt;br&gt;
