County of Santa Cruz Recycling Art Competition for art students in Santa Cruz County

Open to kindergarten through twelfth grade                                                                                    

Enter to win a $100 cash prize per age group


 The art theme must be related to recycling (conservation, awareness, etc.)
 Two dimensional drawings only
 Each work of art cannot be larger than 32 inches by 32 inches to the outside dimensions of the frame.
 Art categories are as follows:
• Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
• Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers, etc.
• Prints: Lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
• Mixed media
• Computer generated art
• Photography
Each entry must be an original concept, design and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. The winning work of art becomes property of the County of Santa Cruz to be used for future recycling and
conservation awareness campaigns

Deadline to turn in art at the County of Santa Cruz government building is March 30th at 5:00 pm

About the Challenge:                                            

The Earth Day Class Project Challenge is a friendly competition among elementary, middle and high     
school classrooms. Each participating class works together as a team to identify an environmental
problem affecting the Santa Cruz community. Students will develop and implement solutions to
their chosen problem and create a display to effectively communicate the goals, objectives, and
results of their project. We hope to inspire teachers and students to think critically about our
community and the environmental problems affecting it.

Completed projects will be presented at the 2nd annual Earth Day Santa Cruz Celebration on
Saturday, April 18, 2009. All completed projects are eligible to win prizes.

Eligibility: This contest is open to all Elementary, Middle and High School
classrooms in the City and County of Santa Cruz.
Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the classroom teachers of the winning projects.
1st prize- $500 2nd prize- $300 3rd prize- $200

Winners will be announced on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Earth Day Santa Cruz.

Timeline:  Projects must be complete by March 18, 2009 to be eligible for prizes or display at Earth Day.

Judging procedure:  A panel of esteemed judges will be assembled from the City, County, and local non-profits.
The projects will be judged on April 18, 2009 at the Earth Day event.
