No Child Left Inside: Environmental Education and the No Child Left Behind Act

Many pressing and complex issues threaten human health, economic development, and national security. Finding wide-spread agreement about what specific steps we need to take to solve these problems is difficult. Environmental education will help ensure our nation's children have the knowledge and skills necessary to address these complex issues. DELTA Studies Institute, San Joaquin Office of Education begins September 27, 2008 DELTA Studies is an engaging California standards-based curriculum centered upon the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The Institute includes a day-long tour of the Delta and two workshops throughout the school year. Stipend of $200 and unit of credit offered

A Day in the Delta with USGS, Wednesday, October 1, 8:00 - 4:00. Come spend a day with USGS researchers learning about the Sacramento- San Joaquin Delta and experience first hand how science is unlocking answers to the current issues. You also walk away with activities that will help bring the real-life science back into your classrooms. Each participant attending this training will receive: a copy of the Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide, a variety of other supplemental materials, the opportunity to purchase (.8) CEU credit- and a free lunch! California Aquarium Education Project (CAEP) - Salmon in the Schools
Through a classroom experience of hatching live fish, CAEP will introduce students to the value of aquatic environments, the balance that must be met to maintain, protect and enhance California fisheries and aquatic habitats and enable students to understand how their actions affect these valuable resources. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/oceo/caep/

Recycle Rex's Statewide Challenge Collect aluminum and plastic CRV beverage containers from home, school, your neighbors or even have your class organize a recycling drive for your entire school! Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) Now Open in Sacramento
Everyday items like computers, office supplies and manufacturing by-products are donated to RAFT and are available at very low prices to teachers to be transformed into hands-on learning experiences for students.
