as the scientists record their daily observations and activities. Students can email their
questions to the members of the research team. All student-scientist interactions are posted
and searchable. There is a curriculum available online which covers topics as varied as krill,
    to why ships float?

  • MARE (Marine Activities, Resources & Education-LHS)

  • MARE is a dynamic, K-8, multicultural science program that transforms entire elementary and middle schools into laboratories for the exploration of the ocean. This schoolwide interdisciplinary program explores different marine environments around the world from the perspective of the diverse cultures living around them. It also brings to life the exciting educational changes called for in the California Science framework, the Language Arts Framework and Project 2061:Science for All Americans.

The Microbe Zoo (Online or on CD-ROM)

  • Microbial ecology is the study of ecosystems that are entirely composed of or profoundly influenced by microscopic organisms. Unlike medical microbiologists, who study disease-causing microbes, microbial ecologists are often concerned with communities of microorganisms responsible for processes that are helpful to or sometimes essential for the health and survival of humans on Earth. The goal of the project is to use computers and network technologies to help students and teachers learn about microbial ecology, and to help make educational resources concerning microbes readily available.

  • This project plans to have the most comprehensive listing of Mono Basin scientific information anywhere! This initial version of the Website features historical interviews with long time Mono Basin residents, the Mono Basin EIR, and a profile of the Mono Lake Microbial Observatory.

  • Mono Lake Home Page

  • Located in California's spectacular Eastern Sierra, Mono Lake is an oasis in the dry Great Basin and a vital habitat for millions of migratory and nesting birds. For over twenty years the Mono Lake Committee has been working to protect Mono Lake from destruction, to heal the damage done in the Mono Basin, and to educate the public about the natural environment and wise water use.

  • Monterey Bay Aquarium - Educator Programs

  • Learn new hands-on and field activities to bring the ocean and its inhabitants into your classroom and stimulate student interest and investigations. The activities will provide your students with a close up look at ocean ecosystems and how they are connected to those ecosystems. They'll learn what they can do to conserve our oceans and our world. Each workshop will provide you with enough science, social studies, math and language arts activities, aquarium resources and personal experiences to build an integrated unit of study for your class.
