Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the CREEC Network?
The California Regional Environmental Education Community (CREEC) Network is a program of the California Department of Education, specifically the Office of Environmental Education. It was established to make links between providers of environmental education and the teachers who use it. The ultimate goal of the CREEC Network is to enhance the environmental literacy of students.
  • What does it actually do? Regional coordinators gather and evaluate the environmental education opportunities in their local region (see the regional map on the home page). They make this information available to teachers in a variety of ways. As "conduits of information" these coordinators strive to help teachers by linking them to the most effective workshops, speakers, curriculum, outings, etc.
  • How will it help me as a provider? Providers of environmental education will receive increased exposure of their programs and organization by being a member of the CREEC Network. The resource directory and calendar are valuable resources for teachers and other educators looking for ways to utilize environmental education lessons and events.
  • How will it help me as a teacher? Teachers with questions regarding environmental education and local resources can expect quick personal response from their CREEC Network Coordinators. The regional CREEC websites will guide you to a directory of resources in your area.
  • Who is leading this organization?
Clicking here will take you to the CREEC Network home page. On that page you'll be able to select the Region for your county and find the state leadership contacts.
  • Does it cost any money to join?
Anyone can join the CREEC Network for FREE and receive email updates by clicking here: Teresa Lees, Region 8 Coordinator. Every region is funded differently, but none charge teachers for their services.
  • How is it funded?
The California Department of Education provides an annual grant to help support the various CREEC regions. However, each region is responsible for funding itself beyond this initial grant. Every region has a different fund-raising strategy, but all welcome gifts from Corporations, businesses, organizations, and individuals who believe in the mission of "increasing the environmental literacy of California students."
  • How can I get my organization involved?
We are a network! We are always looking for involvement from schools, districts, environmental organizations, and businesses who have the environment at their heart. Any organization that we refer to teachers must meet our filter of "high quality" - we must assure schools that there is no hidden agenda. Business & Community Partners are also needed to support the work of the CREEC Network on a local level. Please contact Teresa Lees, Region 8 Coordinator, at (805) 782-7265 to talk about further involvement.
