VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: GRAY WHALE RESEARCH FROM SHORE

The American Cetacean Society-Channel Islands is seeking volunteers to participate in a Gray Whales Count (GWC), a census of the northbound gray-whale migration. Volunteers are needed to observe from Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve in Goleta. The Count will proceed daily from January 28 through May 14, 2006. No previous experience is needed. Observer shifts are 2 hours, and we are looking for volunteers who are willing to commit to one shift per week for multiple weeks during the census. Water Round-Up

Each group or agency will have an opportunity to present a brief, (five-minute max) presentation on their programs and materials. Audiovisual equipment will be available for use.

Environmental Education and Training Partnership (EETAP) Online Courses

Fundamentals of EE online course.  
Basic environmental education concepts will be covered as well as how to incorporate these concepts into your instruction.   Undergraduate and  graduate level credit available.
When: February 6 – April 21.

Applied EE Program Evaluation online course.
Designed for environmental educators, natural resource professionals, and graduate students; this course covers how to design environmental education evaluation tools such as questionaires, observation forms, etc. Undergraduate and  graduate level credit available.
When: February 20 – May 5.

Scholarships are available to those holding a leadership position in environmental education at the community or state level (e.g. directors of EE organizations, programs or nature centers; state program coordinators for PLT, WET or WILD; state EE association board members).

Estuary Science Workshop

Need Help with Science Lessons? Get paid $100 to attend a science workshop just for 4th & 5th grade teachers!
The Morro Bay National Estuary Program is offering an Estuary Science Workshop on February 24th and 25th. The workshop will take place Friday evening from 4:30-7:30pm and on Saturday from 10am-3:30pm. Lessons and topics match 4th and 5th grade science standards. Teach the River

6th Annual Teach the River, Discover the Wonders Where you Live forum about the San Joaquin River Valley for Teachers and Program Leaders will be held on February 25th, 2006 at the C.A.R.T. center in Clovis, CA. The full day session cost is $50 and includes one field trip of your choice. Field Trips and Classes for Community Members are held throughout the spring at various venues at various prices.
