VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: GRAY WHALE RESEARCH FROM SHORE

The American Cetacean Society-Channel Islands is seeking volunteers to participate in a Gray Whales Count (GWC), a census of the northbound gray-whale migration. Volunteers are needed to observe from Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve in Goleta. The Count will proceed daily from January 28 through May 14, 2006. No previous experience is needed. Observer shifts are 2 hours, and we are looking for volunteers who are willing to commit to one shift per week for multiple weeks during the census. National Environmental Education Week: April 16-22, 2006 !!!

The National Environmental Education & Training Foundation (NEETF) is pleased to announce the second annual National EE Week.  
 
National Environmental Education Week will take place April 16-22, 2006 and will be the single largest environmental education event in the U.S.  It is coordinated by NEETF in cooperation with hundreds of outstanding schools, environmental education organizations, education associations, nature centers, zoos, museums, aquariums, and state and federal agencies.  National EE Week is a full week of educational preparedness for Earth Day and will involved thousands of educators and millions of students.
 
Free participation in National Environmental Education Week might include any or all of the following:
1)  Signing on as a partner;
2)  Listing National EE Week on your website and providing a link;
3)  Announcing National EE Week to your members and constituents and encouraging participation;
4)  Supporting and participating in environmental education activities during the week and on Earth Day - April 22.

2006 Statewide AEOE Conference, April 28-30:

Save the date for the AEOE 2006 Statewide Conference: Environmental Education, From Words to Action, April 28-30 at Camp Hess Kramer in Malibu.  Our keynote this year is Richard Louv, inspirational speaker and recent author of Last Child in the Woods, Saving our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder.  There will be 70+ workshops of interest to environmental and outdoor educators.  Professional development and networking opportunities are the two main reasons educators attend AEOE conferences, though entertainment and socializing come in a close second. 

For $125 (early registration postmark date of April 1st, registration forms available by March 1st at the latest), the conference includes 5 delicious meals, camping or dorm housing (motel-style rooms available for an extra cost), most workshops, keynotes and entertainment. Scholarships and professional development credit will be available. Forestry Institute for Teachers

Application Deadline: Apr. 17, 2006
$20 non-refundable application fee required.
Learn loads about trees, forestry, and their connection to California agriculture. All meals and lodging are provided free for this seven day residence workshop. Teachers will receive extensive classroom and curriculum materials, and a $200 stipend on completion and implementation of a forest-related curriculum unit or project conducted in their classrooms.
Three institutes are available: * June 11-17, 2006 - Camp Latieze, Shasta County
                                            * June 18-24, 2006 - UC Forestry Camp, Plumas County (near Quincy)
                                            * July 9-15, 2006 - Humboldt State University, Humboldt County (Arcata)
