What kinds of projects are eligible?

Any project that involves STUDENT ACTION related to environmental topics, and connects the actions to learning activities. Projects might be stormwater pollution prevention, native plant gardens, restoring a natural area near the school, a public education campaign, or a recycling program. We are looking forward to a wide variety of creative submissions, so please do not limit yourself to these topics!

What kinds of projects are not eligible?

Projects with no student action component are not eligible. Projects with religious or political bias are not eligible.

Can I submit (and receive an honorarium for) more than one project?

At this time we are only able to make one award to an individual. This policy could be revised in the future depending on the volume of high quality submissions. So go ahead and submit more than one project if you wish.

My project is used for multiple grade levels, is that okay?

That is fine, simply indicate the grade levels in your submission.

Yes, you may submit it.

No, SanDELA staff will create an alignment, and we will ask you to review it. If you have aligned your project, that’s great and we’ll have you submit it.

SanDELA

San Diego Environmental Literacy in Action

A project funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency to develop a comprehensive K-12 guidebook of class-wide environmental education themes and projects.

Interested in sharing and developing resources for environmental action projects? SanDELA is seeking K-12 teachers with an interest in the environment to assist in creating a San Diego Environmental Action guidebook. This guidebook will present a framework for teachers at each grade level to examine a San Diego environmental issue and address it with an action project.

At the 1 day workshop you will learn about critical San Diego environmental issues; then use your creativity, experience, and a library of existing resources to outline an action project and point to curricular integrations (you are not expected to create new curriculum in one day!).

Qualified applicants will be teaching in a San Diego County school (public or private), and will preferably have experience with environmental education and/or project design.

Benefits of Participation:

  *  $200 stipend.
  * Substitute costs for orientation/work session are paid.

Time Commitment:

  * Attend a 1-day orientation and work session on May 1, June 18, or June 28
  * Evaluate/field test/revise grade level draft environmental action unit.

Click on the TEMPLATE to see what format and type of grade-level action plan you'll be creating.

Click on the TEMPLATE EXAMPLE to see a draft of a grade level plan. (coming soon)

Apply Soon!

Please email Adrienne Marriott with questions (clickable email at left).

What’s in it for me?: In addition to learning about this fantastic program, participants will receive a continental breakfast; lunch; the curriculum, Learning Ocean Science through Ocean Exploration with CD-ROM’s; Certificates of Participation; prizes, and more.

*Over 200 lesson plan activities are available on the Ocean Explorer Web site. Activities generally require few materials to implement and all are aligned to National Science Education Standards.

**Note: This is one day of a two day workshop series. If you attend the second day on Saturday, January 31, 2009 you will be eligible for a $100 stipend for attending both days in their entirety.

FAQ's

What is CREEC? What is SanDCREEC? CREEC is the California Regional Environmental Education Community. It is a project of the Office of Environmental Education at the California Department of Education. The state of California is divided into numerous CREEC regions. The purpose of CREEC is to serve as a network hub for information related to environmental education. It can be considered a "one stop shop" for environmental education needs ranging from a teacher looking for a great curriculum, to a student looking for an internship. SanDCREEC is the San Diego and Imperial County CREEC region (that's region 9a). Historically the focus has been on the San Diego region, but at this time we are working to form a viable network in Imperial county.

Tips - How to build your CREEC website

The first place to check when you need help is the HELP button in the editors line directly above...see it? It will take you to the Manila Newbies tutorial website to guide you through the ins and outs of understanding this easy web authoring system. Check out the html page for help with the html tags normal people can't remember.

Sometimes we CREEC Coordinators just need a little reminder. When you push the edit this page button below, you'll be able to see some common tags. Cut the little formula and paste it in the page you are building. Check out the html formula website for a quick tutorial regarding html tags.
---
***Linking

Websites are all about links, and the CREEC website makes it easy to do.

The Add Link button at the top toolbar will link to an outside website.

The title of any page within your CREEC website becomes an automatic link when you write that title on put it in quotation marks.

The Shortcuts button at the top of the page also makes it easy!

Sample of an email link: Celeste Royer

Sample linking to another website: Region 8 CREEC

---
***FONTS - Type Styles, Colors, Size, and Lists:

Offset bulleted or numbered lists are mad by putting the letters ul (unordered list) in brackets, then stopping the list by placing ul after the slash in brackets.
Bulleted lists then need li (for list) in brackets before each bulleted item.

Bold: bold. Three asterisks before a word or line will also make it bold... like ***this!

Italic: italic

Underline: underline

To change the font face, you need to put the title of the font in brackets like this: Courier New, Verdana, and so on...

Colors: RED, BLUE GREEN

Not enough color choices? Check out this page for more! Just put the name of the color you like into the equation.

Font Size:

Plus One

Plus Two

Plus Three

FAQ and Links
