Please join the San Diego Nature Education working group to share local environmental education resources, identify the closest natural areas to each school, and informally network with other nature education providers, Please BRING your curriculum materials and please send your RSVP to Adrienne Marriott with your name, organization, and zip code (so we can make a map, see note below, and bring enuf bagels/snacks).  (If you forget to RSVP in advance, please come anyway!)

This workshop will gather and then share existing lessons and curriculum used to teach schoolchildren about coastal sage scrub, chaparral, riparian, and estuarine habitats in San Diego.  We are fortunate to have numerous groups, large and small, that provide environmental education opportunities to children, and we suspect that many great lessons have already been created about local ecosystems and environmental issues in San Diego.  We will take inventory of our current resources (bring lesson plans, workbooks, texts, field exercises, web-links) and discuss additional needs--all in a casual environment where you will have plenty of open networking time.  We will also locate the closest natural areas to your local schools, providing you (at the meeting) with a map based on your organization’s zip codes (that you give us in advance).

We’ve already discovered the chaparral curriculum and materials offered by Cabrillo National Monument on their webpage,  http://www.nps.gov/cabr/forteachers/teacher-packets.htm including coastal sage scrub.  And San Diego Audubon Society has posters and activities about San Diego’s habitats.  What do YOU use to teach about our nature?

FAQ's

What is CREEC? What is SanDCREEC? CREEC is the California Regional Environmental Education Community. It is a project of the Office of Environmental Education at the California Department of Education. The state of California is divided into numerous CREEC regions. The purpose of CREEC is to serve as a network hub for information related to environmental education. It can be considered a "one stop shop" for environmental education needs ranging from a teacher looking for a great curriculum, to a student looking for an internship. SanDCREEC is the San Diego and Imperial County CREEC region (that's region 9a). Historically the focus has been on the San Diego region, but at this time we are working to form a viable network in Imperial county.
