Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary Field Trip Bus Scholarship

Tucker Wildlife Sanctuarys rural Orange County location offers K-12 teachers an exciting way to ignite the interest of their students in the environment. Hikes and activities provide cross-curricular lessons in science, art and culture, and language arts. Each tour lasts approximately two hours. Typical tour topics include: Our Native Habitats, Flora and Fauna of the Santa Ana Mountains, Native American Uses of the Natural Resources, and Nature Observations. Program Fees are only $6 per student.

We realize that the cost of Program Fees and busing combined may be unaffordable to many classes. Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary, with the generous support of SCWRP, is making a limited amount of funding available to assist with busing costs for school field trips to Tucker. Applicants must have 50% of students enrolled in free and reduced price lunch program.

Applicants will be notified by email or phone as soon as possible. For more information contact Marcella Gilchrist at mgilchrist@fullerton.edu or 714 649-2760.

The Orange County Chapter funds four grant programs:

  • The Acorn Grant is awarded to programs designed to acquaint young people with California native plants. This might be a school garden project, a field trip to a natural area, an outstanding native plant garden, or any creative idea that reaches the goal. This grant targets students in grades 4 through 6 with an award of $150 to $300.
  • The Horticultural Grant is awarded to a high school, community college or university student or class involved in using native plants in ornamental horticulture, landscape design or other related fields. It may be used to complete a project assigned and overseen by a faculty member. Up to $500 will be provided to offset costs of the project.
  • The Travelers Grant covers the costs of attending a native plant-oriented symposium to someone with genuine interest in native plants who might otherwise not be able to attend. This is awarded as needed; the funding amount varies.
  • The Charlie O'Neill Grant is awarded to a student involved in research in field botany, ecology, floristics, taxonomy, ethnobotany, and other related topics. A limited number of proposals are funded each year ranging from $500 to $1,000 to cover the cost of expendable items that might otherwise not be available to the researcher.

      Information: Alisha: 916-442-2119 or alisha@calparks.org
CSPF offers competitive grants (usually ranging from $200-$6,000) to benefit our State Parks System and to support the Department's mission. Qualified non-profit groups, as well as California state park units and park agencies, are encouraged to apply. In general (and as funds permit), CSPF grants are targeted in four main areas: Volunteer Efforts and Recognition; Education and Interpretation; Natural and Cultural Resource Protection; and Capacity Building for cooperating associations. The Foundation also makes a number of discretionary grants each year that may fall outside the main target areas.
