The Orange County Community Foundation and the Frank and Judy Colver Fund have joined to provide funding for projects and programs that enhance environmental literacy and public understanding of Orange County’s environmental issues in a way that leads to greater involvement in the resolution of current problems and the development of responsible stewardship practices.
This call for proposals seeks applications from individual community-based organizations or groups of organizations working together to meet the criteria listed above. Applicant programs should address one or more of the following:
- Environmental Education
- Hands-on education programs, delivered in coordination with school science curriculum, to students either in class or in the field by environmental organizations. Preference may be given to programs that encourage and incorporate parental involvement.
- Programs that increase awareness and understanding about energy, water, conservation of natural resources and other pressing resource issues which prepare children and adults to intelligently address these issues throughout their lives
- Built Environments
- Creation or support of urban parks, gardens, greenways, trail systems and riverways
- Preservation of open spaces
Funders are open to requests to support innovation, organizational capacity-building and the ability to leverage additional resources for agencies working in areas identified above. Approximately $150,000 is available in this cycle. The grant cycle will run July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. Most grant amounts will range from $5,000 to $20,000, and approximately 8-12 grants will be made.
All materials are due at the Community Foundation offices by 5:00 p.m. on May 15, 2006.
Notification of funding will be made by end of June 2005.
