Thursdays at local venues for 3-hour hikes from 5 to 8 p.m.
For those who are interested in California and OC natural history, or are wishing to volunteer for organizations leading tours in local wild lands and parks. Class taught by Brian Hughes, Field Naturalist with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy and Certified Interpretive Guide.
Earthroots Adult Animal Tracking
July 2008, Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This class will show you practices that can improve your survival skills and skills of nature observation, and expand your sense of wonder. We will focus on animal tracking and observation of birds, plants, water, and the landscape as a whole. Read more:Earthroots Adult Animal Tracking

Our program is designed for science educators interested in taking their practice and scholarship to the next level. The M.S. in Science Education has three options: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Informal Education.
- Elementary and Secondary Options - aimed at credential holders working in K-12 classrooms. (Candidates with extensive private school experience are also welcome to apply to this program.)
- Informal Science Education Option - aimed at educators currently working in non-classroom settings such as museums, aquariums, and nature centers, as well as those charged with fostering the public understanding of science. Classes are offered during the evenings to accommodate practicing educators.

For 5 days in August, join Aquarium educators on Catalina Island and behind-the-scenes at the Aquarium of the Pacific for an immersive experience aimed at bring you into the world of California marine life, and providing you with the tools to bring the ocean back to your students.
- Snorkel with the California State Marine fish - the Garibaldi
- Kayak with sea lions and harbor seals
- Travel on a research vessel and do hands-on oceanography
- Creatively integrate science into other areas of your curriculum
- Tour the dry and wet sides of the Aquarium
Free Online Oceanography Course from the American Meteorological Society

The American Meteorological Society is offering Datastreme Oceans, a free online oceanography course for K-12 teachers. The 12-week course, including AMS classroom educational materials, is a 3-unit graduate course from SUNY-Brockport. The course starts at the end of August 2008 and is now accepting applications.
