NEA Foundation Green Grants

Deadline: June 1, 2010
With $150,000 in new grant funding designated for projects that integrate green-related topics and experiences into the classroom, the NEA Foundation is growing its Learning & Leadership and Student Achievement grants program for individuals and teams of educators. Public school educators are eligible to apply for individual grants worth up to $5,000 for the development and implementation of ideas, techniques, and approaches for teaching “green” concepts.

Ocean Guardian Grant

Deadline: June 1, 2010
NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries is offering Ocean Guardian grants of $2,000- $6,000 to a number of California schools whose students create a school or community-based conservation project that protects their local watershed and the ocean. K-12 schools in the following counties are eligible: Marin, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. This website also offer lesson plans and videos on ocean education.

Nominate a Garden Crusader

Deadline: June 1, 2010
This year, Gardener’s Supply will award more than $15,000 in cash and gardening gear to individuals across the country who are using gardening to make a difference in their communities.

Pacific Forest and Watershed Lands Stewardship Council: Catalyst Fund Round 2

Deadline: June 11, 2010
Eligibility: Northern and Central California nonprofit organizations
This round of funding is only open to organizations whose annual operating budgets are under $250,000.
Program funding up to $15,000
Grassroots organizations must identify a significant need related to access to outdoor experiences, describe why that need is a priority for the community, develop a clear plan for translating that need into action, and demonstrate an ability to account for the expenditure of funds.

Pacific Forest and Watershed Lands Stewardship Council: Impact Fund Round 2

Deadline: June 11, 2010
Eligibility: Northern and Central California nonprofit organizations
Program funding from $15,000 to $50,000
The Impact Fund is designed to support more established organizations with the resources they need to get underserved youth connected to the outdoors. Organizations are encouraged to request funds that will address the barriers that are keeping youth from getting outdoors. In particular, these funds have the potential for lowering the threshold for accessing the outdoors; enhancing the cultural relevancy of the programming offered by the grant-seeking organization; or creating an innovative approach to reaching this population. These funds may be used for, but are not limited to, dedicated programming or operations, program staff, development, and capacity building.

Rachel Carson Sense of Wonder Contest

Deadline: June 16, 2010
Enter the Rachel Carson Sense of Wonder contest. Show how the beauty of nature inspires you through poetry, essays, photos or dance. Entries must be from a team of two or more persons, a young person and an older person.

Captain Planet Foundation Grants

Deadline: June 30, 2010
The Captain Planet Foundation provides grants to support hands-on environmental projects. The objective of the Foundation is to encourage innovative programs that empower children and youth around the world to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities. Grant rewards up to $2,500 are available.
