Young Naturalist Awards 2010

The American Museum of Natural History announces the 13th annual Young Naturalist Award, a research-based essay contest for students in grades 7-12 to promote participation and communication in science.

Arbor Day Poster Contest “Trees are Terrific…and Energy Wise!”

Deadline: March 1, 2010

Fifth Grade Educators and their students are invited to participate in the annual Arbor Day Poster Contest, a program of the National Arbor Day Foundation, and sponsored in
California by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and
the California Community Forests Foundation. We hope you will use the contest activity to help your students learn more about how trees provide many environmental benefits – including capturing and storing energy.
 

Recycle Rex's Statewide Recycle Challenge

Deadline:  March 13, 2010

Register your K-6th grade classes for Recycle Rex's Statewide Recycle Challenge.  The registration form will be available at the Department of Conservation's web site, http://www.conservation.ca.gov/dor/rre/Pages/index.aspx . You may register by email or regular mail.  Recycle Rex's Statewide Recycle Challenge will begin November 16,  2009 and run through March 13, 2010.  Entries will be accepted during this timeframe.  The Department of Conservation will announce the winners at the above link on Earth Day, April 22, 2010!

Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge

Deadline for Middle School Groups: March 15, 2010

The Siemens "We Can Change the World" challenge offers students the opportunity
to make a sustainable change, matched to science, math and reading/language arts concepts and skills. Teams of students find an adult mentor who will play an active role in guiding student development of the project and submission of materials. The entry period for submissions has already begun.

Junior Duck Stamp Program Art Contest

Deadline: March 15, 2010

Open to students grades K – 12. The California Waterfowl Association teams with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to educate youth (K-12) about wetlands and waterfowl through this program.  Youth are invited to participate in a free annual art competition that helps tie together lessons on animal form and function, plant science, observation, wetland habitats, and more.  The website has rules, entry forms, and free teaching materials.
